Swim in the River Itchen at Compton Lock, just a 10-minute walk up the river path from Shawford. This stunning spot on the crystal-clear shallow river has purpose-built access into a beautiful pool formed by the old lock. It is a very popular place to swim and should be avoided at obvious times if possible. A better option on a busy and hot day is where the river crosses Garnier Road on the outskirts on Winchester.
